1. Write a press release to be distributed to traditional media about your event for Ever & Ever. Remember – this will go to print, broadcast and digital media. Make sure you have all information that works for each – good writing, web information, links, social media links, etc. — the 5ws
You are trying to reach journalists who write about sports, sustainability, new products, health and wellness, focus on NYC. In short, each media contact will have a specific agenda. Therefore, include the most pertinent information without being specific to any particular industry.
Remember the 5ws, and the formatting for a press release. Review your Pancake release as an additional guide and conduct some of your own research for examples. I mentioned PR Newswire, where thousands of releases are housed as a resource. Your release should be no more than 2 ½ pages, double-spaced, including the boilerplate. Review slides and resources I provided to you in class.
2. Remember the inverted pyramid. Most important information at top. Who, what, when, where why. Second paragraph is more content about the product, the event, what will happen there. Use quotes where appropriate. Latter paragraph is about important information and details, logistics. Closing is call to action, how to get in touch, make sure have times and location.
3. Write a pitch letter to an editor. This is a brief email that is an attempt to get your event covered, and accompanies your press release. See the following link that will help you to prepare.
