This video shows a program where women in prison are parenting their babies behind bars. After watching the video and doing your own independent research, answer the following questions in paragraph format:

Question 3:
Please watch the video below. This video discusses the issue of poor medical and mental health care in Arizona prisons. There is sensitive information in this video because the topics of suicide and self-harm are discussed. In the video, there is mention of a lawsuit against the prison system in Arizona – Parsons v. Ryan (attached). This lawsuit deals with the issue of private medical providers and their contracts with prison systems. Though this video discusses what happened in Arizona, these challenges exist in other states, including Florida.
After watching the video and reviewing the Parsons lawsuit attached answer the following questions in paragraph format:
- What was the Parson's lawsuit about? What constitutional amendment did the plaintiff's claim was violated in the Parson's case? Explain the amendment and how the court ruled in this case?
- Who is to blame for poor medical care in prisons?

Question 4:
In 1994, Bill Clinton signed a law that placed a ban on people in state and federal prisons from receiving Pell Grants. President Obama authorized an experimental program to allow certain colleges to apply on behalf of individuals in prison for Pell Grants and attend college courses while incarcerated. President Trump continued the program. On December 21, 2020 Congress passed a law that lifted the long-standing ban on federal student aid – specifically, the Pell Grant – for those who are incarcerated. See the article below:
In July 2023, Pell Grants were restored to those in prison. If there is reputable college program available at their particular prison, qualified students can use Pell Grants to help cover the cost of their tuition. Using the article above and doing independent research, answer the following questions in paragraph format:

- Provide three distinct reasons to support your opinion.
- Use research and empirical data to support your opinion.

In July 2017, O.J. Simpson was granted parole after serving 9 years in prison for his role in an armed robbery. He could have served up to 33 years in prison in Nevada. Below is the link to his parole hearing:

Chapter 11 addresses special populations in prison. Many people are sentenced to really long prison terms. This means that the prisoners are aging. Some people come into prison with terminal illnesses while others develop terminal illnesses while incarcerated. Bob is a 60 year old man serving a life sentence in prison for robbery. He is a habitual offender and is on his third strike. Bob is also terminally ill with brain cancer. The doctors estimate that he has six months to live. His family would like for him to come home where they can care for him until his death.
Imagine you are a state lawmaker and Bob’s family is requesting that a law be passed to release terminally ill inmates from prison so they can be cared for by their families. Answer the following questions in paragraph format:
- What are two (2) reasons to support this law?
- What are two (2) reasons to oppose this law?
- As a lawmaker would you vote for such a law that releases the terminally ill from prison? Explain.
