Project management is a technique of planning, executing, directing, and managing the processes in proper order to complete a work or task in a desired period of time in a productive way. To achieve the success of the project, the project objective, scope, critical path, and resources all have an important role in this framework. Projects without clear understanding of these elements may experience delays, budget overruns and failure to meet stake holder expectations. In healthcare, with projects often focused on patient care improvements, regulatory compliance, or resource optimization, effective project management is just as important.
The efficiency of project objectives, project scope documents, critical path analysis and resource management will be investigated in this paper. Each of these components plays an important role in making a project more efficient and effective. These principles can potentially be employed in healthcare, especially at AccentCare Hospice, so as to improve patient care, eradicate repetition, and further contribute to delivering service. Effective allocation of resources, meeting deadlines, and achieving goals are all ensured with a well-structured project.
Project Objectives and Their Importance
A project objective is the result that the project must attain. It will guide the project team and the stakeholders so that they are working on what is expected in the end result. To increase the success probability of a project, project objectives should be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and with a Time constraint) (Gido, 2017). Without clear objectives, teams can miss the mark on priorities, scope creep, and flow inelegance in execution.
Where a project objective is not clearly expressed, confusion, misalignment and project failure can occur, resulting to delays to work, cost increases, or even project failure. For example, a healthcare project that aims to ‘improve patient care,’ leaves unclear what specific changes are required, how success will be judged, and what actions will be taken. It may lead to inconsistent efforts and ineffective resource allocation.
For example, a poorly written project objective might be: "Improve patient care in hospice settings." This statement lacks specificity, making it difficult to measure progress or determine success.
A well-written project objective would be: "Implement a new electronic medical records (EMR) system in AccentCare Hospice by Q4 2025 to improve documentation accuracy and reduce patient charting time by 25%." This objective is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART), making it more actionable and trackable. Clearly defined objectives help ensure that teams stay focused on the desired outcomes and can measure success effectively.
Project Scope Document and Its Importance
The project scope document describes the target of the project, the deliverables, the fixed budget, time schedule and limits. At its most basic level, it is an agreement between stakeholders that all parties of the project know what is and is not included (Armenia et al., 2019). This document is a roadmap for executing projects with the projected teams in line and on target to achieve designated objectives.
Preventing scope creep, meaning when unapproved changes make the project’s original goals expand beyond its scope, for instance, is a necessity because it results in delayed timelines and higher costs. Lacking a clear scope, projects may get caught in resource shortages and growing priorities. For example, in a healthcare project at AccentCare Hospice, if an initial scope is to upgrade patient data security systems, but there is a mid project expansion to include staff training on cybersecurity without any change to the schedule and budget, inefficiencies could occur within the project.
A well-defined project scope document includes:

Deviations in one task can cause mathematical domino effect resulting in delays in subsequent tasks and completion date of the project at large (Gido, 2017). Critical path management is an effective way to make scheduling more efficient, to prioritize the tasks, as well as to mitigate possible risks.

Resource availability influenced project scheduling. For example, the availability of limited IT staff necessitated one training session at a time rather than in a phased manner. Leaving resource constraints unaddressed, there may be bottlenecks as such constraints will delay the project timelines. It also helps in providing the employees with enough resources so that they don’t feel burdened and burn out, neither do they lose productivity. Monitoring resource utilization and making changes when needed is also involved in managing resources. A project manager should guarantee that they are not undersized or overworked (Dacre et al., 2021). To accomplish this, there is an ongoing assessment, clear communication with stakeholders, and strategic decision-making to address out of the ordinary challenges.

Well-defined objectives, clear scope of the project, a structured critical path analysis and allotment of effective resources are the essential elements for successful project management. These principles are applicable to healthcare projects, such as those at AccentCare Hospice, for enable efficient operations and better patient care. Knowing about and using these concepts will allow project managers to tame risks, simplify the execution, and eventually complete the project successfully. The output of a structured project management approach is better project outcomes and team collaboration , more efficient utilization of resources and a better score of how the long-term functional goal of the organization is being accomplished.
