You will craft an original shot breakdown of Deadpool scene listed in this. A shot breakdown provides a detailed description of the cinematographic techniques employed in each shot and allows you to analyze editing choices/patterns in the scene. A shot breakdown is both a foundational tool for the study of media aesthetics and an important practical exercise for honing the skills necessary to planning a shoot.

You will need to watch your chosen scene multiple times in order to be able to identify and describe the cinematographic and editing techniques employed therein.

For each shot in the scene you must identify:

  1. The number of the shots in the clip (number the shots from first to last).
  2. The action taking place in the shot (provide a *brief* description).
  3. The distance of framing using standard abbreviations (e. LS, MLS, CU, etc.).
  4. The depth of field (which planes of the image are in focus?)
  5. The shot height (high, low, or normal).
  6. The shot angle (high, low, or straight-on).
  7. The style of lighting (high-key or low key).
  8. Any camera movement (i.e, track in, tilt up, pan left while tracking back, etc.).
  9. The length of the shot in seconds.
  10. The transition between each shot.
  11. A two-page, double-spaced analysis that highlights the dominant cinematographic and editing techniques and patterns employed in the scene and their function in the text. You will find video essays on Blackboard that model the type of analysis you should perform.
