CHFD225 The Historical Making of Families
Week 2: The Historical Making of Families
Overview:
Welcome to Week 2.
In this lesson, we will focus on the themes of uneven change, diversity, and social
agency as well as on the way the structure of contemporary society shapes families and
the individuals within them. All families are shaped by specific historical, social, and
material conditions. We will analyze how White women, men, and children in different
social classes were affected by the changing economy, the impact of immigration on
White European immigrant families, the impact of racial domination on family life, and
the aging of society (Zinn et al., 2011).
