You will also apply your understanding of positive psychology to your specialization in life coaching. Further, you will apply your understanding of grit and your Grit Scale results and write about how you can apply what you learned about your own grit to your specialization.

Instructions

1. Review Chapter 1, “Evaluating Scientific Progress in Positive Psychology,” (new tab) in your textbook Scientific Advances in Positive Psychology.

2. In your textbook Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, take the “Grit Scale” assessment on page 55.

3. Read How to Write an Engaging Online Discussion Post (PDF document) and apply the guidelines to your weekly discussion posts.

4. Navigate to the discussion topic and respond to the following discussion prompts:

a. Traditionally, psychology has focused its efforts on psychological problems and how to remedy them. How is the approach that positive psychology takes different?

b. How does the approach (or approaches) that positive psychology takes relate to your specialization/career focus in life coaching and positive psychology?

c. Reflect on the Grit Scale and identify how your new learning about the concept of grit can be applied to your specialization/focus or personal life.

d. Use support for all your claims.

5. Your initial post:

a. Should be between 400 to 500 words.

b. Is due by the end of the fourth day of the workshop.

6. Read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings, as well as instructor follow-up questions directed to you, by the end of the workshop.

7. Your postings should also:

a. Be well developed by providing clear answers with evidence of critical thinking.

b. Add greater depth to the discussion by introducing new ideas.
