Week 2 Project Biblical Passage for Instructor Approval
Assignment Introduction:
The High Stakes Final Paper for this course will be to write a NT Research (Context, Exegesis, Theology) Paper on one key passage from a New Testament text. To accomplish this, we will undertake this project in several steps.
The first step is due this week. After study and prayer, come up with a NT passage that you want to use as your text for your exegetical project. Since this is a passage that you will be examining at length, some suggestions:
Pick a NT passage that you can really explore in depth. Maybe it will be one that you have always wondered about, or one about which you care.
When possible, pick one that relates to your Final Project plans.
Be sure to pick something that is long enough, without being too long. It should represent a ‘complete thought.’ Often, verse and chapter markers can help, but they are not always accurate.
1 verse is much too short
1 whole chapter, unless short, is likely too long
You are probably looking at something that is about ‘a third to a half’ of a chapter in length—something that expresses one, and only one, complete thought. Some NT books will be easier to do this with than others.
It is hard to give broad guidance since every passage is different—feel free to consult the professor in advance.
Your final product this week will be in a Microsoft Word document. Your paper should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and formatted correctly in Turabian style with cover page and bibliography.
Submit the passage, with a 50-100 word rationale for your selection of the passage, as your paper in the Submissions Area for W2 Project
