Major Project -Team Assignment
Multi-sport Facility Design and Development Project
Each student will research the area of multi-sport facilities, as these are very popular
but have difficulty staying in business at times, due to lack of good strategic planning
and execution. In teams of 4-5, students will design a multisport facility from start to
finish, including consideration for the following:
• Discuss key success factors of operating a sport facility.
• Complete a feasibility analysis and market research plan.
• Complete a new sport facility operations plan: attracting events, planning events,
and management infrastructure.
o Your team can go in multiple directions here. You can plan for a multi-
sport facility that houses recreation league sports for youth and adults, for
a multi-sport event facility (such as a stadium for professional sports and
events), etc… be creative! Consider partnerships with other professional
organizations in the community (sports or local).
• Attracting Customers: Marketing your sports facility in the most effective way.
• Event execution plan
*Wrap up the project with a performance management plan. While you will not know the
results of your hypothetical multi-sport facility and/or event, please indicate which
performance management approach you will take and why.
Hint: Look for multi-sport park planning, sports complex project, etc…
